So you’ve just bought your new Ford car or truck. The only problem is, you’ve got to get the vehicle insured before you can take it on the road — that’s where Ford’s new Ford Insure and FordPass™ App come into play.

Though Ford’s new insurance policy, underwritten by Nationwide Mutual Insurance, actually launched last fall, the new FordPass™ option is an exciting update for consumers. The product was designed to take away the “pain points of ownership” and to reward car and truck owners for safe driving habits, according to CEO of Ford Credit Marion Harris. The app will come pre-loaded with information about your vehicle when you buy it, saving you significant time in the application process.

After you purchased a policy from Ford, the app tracks and shares vehicle data such as how far you drive, hard braking, heavy acceleration, and idle time. Ford then uses this data to calculate discounts to read you for safe driving. You can net up to a 40 percent discount, according to the brand.

If you happen to get into an accident, not only can you notify emergency services, but the app also lets you notify Ford. This means that you can begin the claim-filing process as soon as there is a claim to be filed, expediting the process so you can receive your insurance money and fix your Ford faster.
